One of my cats wasn’t drinking much water. I noticed this by observing her pee—it was reddish-yellow. She was a female Ragdoll and absolutely loved dry cat food. So, I started thinking about how to gradually get her more hydrated.
Step-by-Step Food Transition
- I decided to change her food habits.
- Since I was feeding her 3–4 times a day, during the first few days, I gave her boiled chicken by hand twice a day.
- I still gave her dry food 1–2 times a day, but it didn’t seem to work well.
- Then I tried offering her chicken broth (chicken stock water), thinking it might taste better for her.
- After that, I started blending dry food and mixing it with the chicken. She really liked that.
- Gradually, I stopped giving her dry food completely.
- I slowly reduced the amount of blended dry food and increased the amount of boiled chicken.
- Then, I started adding a small amount of boiled vegetables like carrot, papaya, and potato. The vegetable ratio was very small, about 10:2 (chicken to vegetables).

The Results: Within one month, I was able to eliminate dry food from her diet. And guess what? It was like magic—her pee returned to normal, and these steps really helped keep her hydrated.
